This past Thursday, December 17th, marked the first girls wrestling competition in the history of Clarke. Last winter, the IGHSAU sanctioned wrestling for high school girls across the state of Iowa. The sport has rapidly picked up popularity and is going to give more opportunities for girls to participate.
The team traveled to Ballard for their first tournament on the 17th. Elleanor Shinn was the first girl from Clarke to win a high school match in the inaugural season. The roster consist of Maisy Davis (FR), Josie Moore (FR), Zari Samuels (FR), Elli Shinn (FR), and Janell Salinas (SOPH). Managers include Melanie Sandoval, Abbi Nash and Nevaeh Rowe. Mr. Doug Heaberlin agreed to be the head coach of this exciting and young group of wrestlers.
Unfortunately, there will not be any home matches this season. The two closest competitions this season will be when the team travels to Chariton on December 16th starting at 3pm and then Central Decatur on January 5th at 6pm.
Good luck to all the members of this historic season.
